S31254 (UNS S31254), commonly known as 254 SMO (a trademark of Outokumpu), is a super austenitic stainless steel designed for extreme environments. Even though S31254 is more expensive than standard stainless steels, it's cheaper than nickel alloys. So in applications where nickel alloys might be considered, 254 SMO could be a cost-saving alternative without compromising performance. That’s a significant advantage.
